Dubai Sights

Dubai Sights.

For the sight-seeker, Dubai is for sure the ideal dreamland.

The city itself, set against a vast desert background and flanked by beautiful desert patterns and dunes makes a great sight, especially as seen from a far-off vantage point.

To get a really good taste of Dubai’s best sights, you should take a desert safari. This will have to be in a 4-wheel drive, because driving in the desert sand can be tricky. It is here that you get to see the desert sand dunes, grand features whose sight will remain etched in memory for a long time to come. Remember to bring your camera with you, for the benefit of those you leave at home. It is during this trip too that you can get to ride on camels, considered the hardiest domestic animals, whose sheer size makes some people have a small tinge of inferiority complex.

Then you can take a tour of the city itself, especially great if you get to use the city’s open-top double Decker busses. It is a city of great contrasts, alternating within a short distance between a traditional Arabic village feel and a fast-paced western city feel. For a feel of what a real cosmopolitan city is like, pay a visit to Jumeira, the city’s residential area, also home to a remarkable mosque and palace. While in downtown Dubai, you can also get to visit a ‘Souk’, a traditional Arabic market, and do some light shopping.

While in Dubai, you will not want to miss a visit to the ‘Garden City’ of Al Ain, which hosts the old palace of Sheikh Zayed. A visit to this part of Dubai takes you through beautiful desert scenery, right up to the Hajar Mountains. It is in Al Ain that you get to see the biggest camel market in the Emirates. The city also hosts a good museum and an archeological site, well worth of your visit.

Then there are Dubai’s grand projects, which you might want to pay a visit to, for inspiration. If you really feel that you have some money, then you can boast of having stayed - or at least visited - the world’s biggest and most expensive hotel, the Burj Al Arab. Another grand project you see in Dubai is it’s the Jebel Ali Port, reputedly the world’s largest man-made harbor. Emirate Towers, also in Dubai, is said to be world’s biggest building project. Having seen all these projects, you will get to understand why petroleum is much fought over.

While in Dubai, you will also want to make a trip to the Mountain Springs at Hatta, and watch some spectacular rock formations and sand dunes. This site also hosts a 16th century heritage village, where you can witness the famed ‘Arab-Civilization’ you read in your history firsthand.

With all these and many other grand sights, a visit to Dubai is sure to be a memorable event.
